Welcome to the inaugural post of Bottom Feeders Anonymous, a place where I take you on a journey down to the depths of The RealReal to find some hidden (and heavily reduced) treasure. One of the things I’d love to do with this space is to showcase what TRR has to offer for whatever is currently trending, because as much as I’d like to think of myself as being above it, something in my little monkey brain still can’t help but to be drawn to whatever everyone else is wearing. The temptation to just buy the easy fast fashion fix is so strong, especially for a trend that has a sharp seasonal shelf life, like the one we’re going to explore today: all things fish related (why not just beat this ocean metaphor to death?).
Much like florals for spring, oceanic motifs have served as a trendy harbinger for summer - so much so in fact, that we have now as a society decided dead sardines in a tin is so aesthetically pleasing we should put them on t-shirts and tote bags. Even so, there’s something so deliciously summery about wearing something like a fish charm around my neck. It’s as though I’m instantly transported back to my honeymoon at the dock of La Scoglio, overlooking the mediterranean with a plate of zucchini pasta and a campari spritz in front of me. Keep scrolling for some of my best fishy finds!
*one of my goals is to keep all recommendations under $100, but because anything that sits for long enough on TRR will eventually get reduced, I’ll be including a few things that will be just over $100 in the hopes that they’ll get marked down soon. Even if something is over budget, just save it and wait, lurking like the proud bottom feeder you are! I’ve also included a couple of vintage Etsy jewelry finds that were too good not to share.
Clockwise from top left: Ferragamo silk scarf, $92 at 20% off (wear tied around your L.L. Bean and/or Trader Joe’s mini tote)
Mignonne Gavigan earrings, $76 at 20% off
Alexis Bittar shell brooch, $93 at 25% off
Yves Saint Laurent sweater, $45 at 30% off
Yves Saint Laurent platforms, $94 at 30% off, size 10
Mystique starfish sandals $24 at 40% off, size 6 (wear with a white poplin skirt, freshwater pearl necklace, and tank top no bra)
Tod's leather boat shoes $63 at 10% off, size 5.5
Richard Grand cashmere sweater $92 at 20% off (wear with those Tod’s boat shoes, white cotton shorts, and a tennis necklace)
Tory Burch graphic tee, $36 at 40% off
Clockwise-ish from top left ***bottom row of jewelry is all via Etsy:
Sandro sweater, $47 at 55% off
Oceanus Dress, $75 at 50% off (**this looks like a classic case of the measurements and listed size clearly not adding up. If the waist were really 21 inches, it would not fit on the mannequin. One suggestion is to cross reference the Oceanus site for accurate measurements if you don’t want to deal with TRR’s customer service)
Oceanus cardigan, $78 at 55% off
Tory Burch drop earrings, $116 at 20% off
Prada starfish sandals, $32 at 60% off (wear with linen pants and a short sleeved button up open over a bikini top)
Silver scallop charm bracelet, $12
Seashell charm, $11
Silver Mexican fish bracelet, $85
Moby Dick charm, $34 (you can open the mouth to reveal Jonah!!)
Tory Burch large scarf, $90 and not marked down yet boo (wear as a cover up that can pull double duty as a blanket on the sand)
Ferragamo men's boat shoes, $64 at 20% off, men’s 7/ women’s 9 (why not search the men’s section for shoes that might fit? It is rife with boat shoes and driving shoes)
Tory Burch fish sandals,$132 at 20% off, size 10.5
Btw, you know who else is overlooked and underrated?
Leaving you with this image of Yasmeen Ghauri in the ocean themed dress of my dreams. Yasmeen is always left out of the GOAT 90’s supermodel conversation and enough is enough, time to put some respect on this icon’s name!
