Hello, coming to you live from Copenhagen Fashion Week!... from my IG feed⦠from my living room. This last week on social media has felt like a complete inundation of Scandi Girl style, including some great recaps from some of my favorite Substackers. Itās also fed a near constant stream of lists and articles on what trends to identify from the thousands upon thousands of CPHFW street style photos (not the actual fashion shows of course, donāt be silly), because as style icon Gabriella Karefa-Johnson put it:
I cannot recount how many ostrich plumed sheer skirts I encountered this week. And never on the runway! I love that Copenhagen feels like the freest place in the world during Fashion Week. Folks dress with fun in mind, like everyone is playing the same game and trying desperately to win.
In other words, thereās so much to look at - so many weird, maximalist, original (and some derived) outfits with layers and layers of sequins and lace and accessories piled on top of each other. Naturally, with so much eye-catching content to pull from, there are plenty of trends to push, so many that Iāve narrowed it down to just two accessories: bag charms and flip flops (seriously, every other attendee was wearing flip flops). I've also included some fun and weird Scandi Girl coded hats, glasses, bags and more at the bottom.
These two trends in particular seem especially ephemeral to me, even in the frenzied, algorithm-induced microtrend hell we live in, which is exactly why I want to feature them. Thereās not necessarily anything wrong with buying into a trend - in fact, Iād argue weāre biologically hard wired to - but I think many of us, bottom feeders and beyond, want to do it on our own terms. That might mean sustainability, good cost per wear, genuinely loving the way it looks beyond itās trendiness, or, my personal preference of it at least being unique to me (a.k.a. vintage or secondhand, not something you could just find on Zara or a cursed Labubu doll). Living by these rules means even the shortest lived fad lives longer in your closet - better for you, your wallet, and the planet.
